This past Saturday we gave it the college try and attempted to finally take on the beautification project. While we got a lot accomplished, we still got hit with rain and it prevented us from finishing everything we set out to do. So, the Mount Pleasant Christian Church is sending volunteers out again to help us wrap up this project. They will be here tomorrow from 3:30pm to around 7. If you can find time in your day to help out we would greatly appreciate it. The weather should be perfect and it’s a great time to build community among the SVBA and to work alongside the volunteers from Mount Pleasant and to thank them for their efforts. Please join us tomorrow to see this project through.
Reminder: Beautification scheduled for Sat. May 20th! Volunteers needed.
Hello SVBA members! We are scheduled to do a planting and beautification day this Sat. May 20th. We’ve been rained out twice already and plan to make a go of it this Saturday even though there is a chance of rain. We will be planting flowers in your pots and, in some, planting an evergreen. Watering will take place on a weekly basis, but feel free to give them some extra water in the hot dry months if you wish. We are planting 5 trees as well north of the interstate thanks to some of our businesses who donated money for this effort. Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood is bringing close to 100 volunteers to our neighborhood to help with the planting, beautification and clean-up. They are also looking to place a branch of their church in our neighborhood!!!! We are very grateful for their willingness to help us and we would like as many members of the SVBA to join in to help and show our appreciation. The planting will start at 9:00am and we will have SVBA members meet at Midwest Computer Accessories at 850 S Meridian St. Hope to see you there!!

Members of your group may not know that at one time, a high percentage of the Jewish immigrants who used to live on the southside once worked for a business called Kahn Tailoring. Kahn was located at 800 North Capitol St (corner of Capitol and St. Clair). That building has just been beautifully renovated into apartments. On Friday, April 21 (this coming Friday), the building manager is willing to let anyone who wants to come by to see the building and learn a bit about its history. I have prepared a small exhibit on the history of Kahn Tailoring that will be on display that day. Please let people know that they are welcomed to stop by the building this Friday between 9-5 to see the exhibit and the building. I have attached a flier with the details here: FLIER(2)
Lastly, THANK YOU to everyone who has sent in their membership dues! We appreciate your support! If you haven’t, here is the form—–> stadiumvillagemembership
